چکیده

Pixel lensing is the gravitational microlensing of light from unresolved stars contributing to the lumi-nosity flux collected by a single pixel. A star must be sufficiently magnified, that is, the lens impact parameter must be less than a threshold value uT if the excess photon flux in a pixel is to be detected over the background. Assuming the parameters of the Isaac Newton Telescope and typical observing conditions, we present maps in the sky plane towards M31 of threshold impact parameter, optical depth, event number and event time scale, analyzing in particular how these quantities depend on uT in pixel lensing searches. We use an analytical approach consisting of averaging on uT and the star column density the optical depth, microlensing rate and event duration time scale. An overall decrease in the expected optical depth and event number with respect to the classical microlensing results is found, particularly towards the high luminosity M31 inner regions. As expected, pixel lensing events towards the inner region of M31 are mostly due to self-lensing, while in the outer region dark events dominate even for a 20% MACHO halo fraction. We also find a far-disk/near-disk asymmetry in the expected event number, smaller than that found by Kerins (2004). Both for self and dark lensing events, the pixel lensing time scale we obtain is ≃ 1 − 7 days, dark events lasting roughly twice as long as self-lensing events. The shortest events are found to occur towards the M31 South Semisphere. We also note that the pixel lensing results depend on uT and u 2 T values and ultimately on the observing conditions and telescope capabilities.

Event Rate and Einstein Time Evaluation in Pixel Microlensing

It has been shown that a flux–weighted full width at half maximum timescale of a microlensing event can be used in an unbiased estimator of the optical depth. For the first time, this allows a physical parameter to be easily estimated from pixel microlensing data. We derive analytic expressions for the observed rate of pixel lensing events as a function of the full width at half maximum timesca...

Optical depth evaluation in pixel microlensing

We propose an estimator of the microlensing optical depth from pixel lensing data that involves only measurable quantities. In comparison to the only previously proposed estimator, it has the advantage of not being limited to events with large magnification at maximum, and it applies equally well to satellite and ground-based observations. Carlo analysis of MEGA microlensing events towards M 31

We perform an analytical study and a Monte Carlo (MC) analysis of the main features for microlensing events in pixel lensing observations towards M31. Our main aim is to investigate the lens nature and location of the 14 candidate events found by the MEGA collaboration. Assuming a reference model for the mass distribution in M31 and the standard model for our galaxy, we estimate the MACHO-to-se...

Spectroscopy of MACHO 97-SMC-1: self-lensing within the SMC

More than a dozen microlensing events have been detected so far towards the LMC and 2 towards the SMC. If all the lenses are in the Galactic halo, both the LMC and the SMC events are expected to have similar time scales. However, the first event towards the SMC, MACHO 97-SMC-1, had a time scale of 123 days which is much larger than the typical time scale for the LMC events. Since the observed t...

Rate of Binary Events in Microlensing

The consideration of binary lenses is crucial in the analysis of self-lensing in microlensing surveys. A binary event presents high magnification peaks when the source crosses the caustic curve. We compute the rates of caustic crossing events both for resolved sources, such as towards the galactic bulge, and for unresolved sources, as in pixel microlensing. We find that the relative number of c...
